Hamilton’s industrial sector showed up in force on October 1st at the historic Ancaster Mill for the launch of the HIPE Network. The energy in the room was undeniable, with industrial leaders, utility partners, government officials, and technology suppliers all connecting to tackle one of the city’s biggest challenges: securing the future of energy and water for Hamilton’s business community.
From the opening remarks by the Honourable Sam Oosterhoff, laying out the Ontario Government’s long-term plan to the candid panel discussion with seasoned industrial and energy experts, the day made one thing clear: real solutions will come from working together, not in silos.
Conversations ranged from grid constraints and rising energy demand to smarter management, better data, and stronger collaboration across sectors. As one speaker put it, “Standing still is not an option. The next five years will determine which businesses thrive.”
During the panel, Graham Reid from TOA Engineering Services, and a member of the HIPE Network advisory committee, emphasized the importance of deep engagement across every level of an organization:
“One of the struggles with energy is that it’s ubiquitous and very diverse across companies and communities. Developing a business case strong enough to deliver a return means engaging comprehensively, from the top executive group right down to the shop floor, to ensure everyone understands the need, the techniques, and the tools.”
The HIPE Network launch drew strong sponsorship support from across the sector, reflecting a shared commitment to action. 360 Energy is pleased to be one of the community stakeholders helping make this initiative possible, working alongside industry, utilities, and government to turn discussion into measurable progress.
The HIPE Network launch drew strong sponsorship support from across the sector, reflecting a shared commitment to action. But the work doesn’t end with a single event. Keeping this momentum will require everyone—industry, utilities, and government, to participate, speak up, and collaborate.
Feedback from the launch underscored the enthusiasm for continued collaboration.
100% of attendees said they’re interested in future HIPE events, and over 80% reported gaining valuable insights, from understanding Ontario’s energy plans to hearing directly from industry peers.
Comments highlighted “valuable networking opportunities,” “excellent panels,” and “the importance of community engagement around energy.” One attendee summed it up well: “Great insights and nice to hear from other industry leaders, excellent event, well organized.”
This was just the starting line. The HIPE Network will continue to grow as a hub for industrial collaboration, practical insights, and real solutions.
